I remember as we flew in from arriving from Israel and how you kept the doors open on a Saturday afternoon for us to hold and see our daughter for the last time. You were absolutely SO caring and did her up SO beautiful like on the day she got married 33 days prior to her passing. You never rushed us as a family and truly grateful that you care SO much.

That day the hardest day of my life I will never forget 20/5/2017….but you were amazing and SO professional. I recommend you to all I know who needs a funeral “home” because it is. GOD BLESS you for all you do it cannot be easy dealing with bereaved and grieving people. May the LORD strength you in all you do for the community. They collected my Dad at home after he passed. They were so kind to us and respectful with his body. Even though it was almost 1 am. So helpful afterwards. Highly recommend them.

XXX is now safely back home in Tavistock, Devon and we look forward to celebrating his life with friends in a few weeks time. You made his journey possible and stress free for us all in the UK waiting for him. The Memorial Service at the Milnerton House Chapel, as the final tribute to our Mom, we know would be exactly as we wanted after Jeanette and I met you on our initial visit to the First Ave Funeral Home. We felt that we were in very capable hands, and how right we were! You smoothed the way for us efficiently and with compassion, dealt with all the complexities of the funeral arrangements.

I would like to thank First Avenue Funeral Home, who made an incredibly painful process as smooth as possible, during a time when the entire family was in complete shock and despair. The service and handling of all the logistics, services, and documentation was seamless. The personalized care that Prue Gillespie and her team delivered, made our family feel as though our case was the only one they were handling and also managed to expedite the funeral and cremation, making it possible for overseas family members being able to attend both ceremonies – putting to rest a much loved and respected family member.

Caring service eases sad return
How wonderful to be held in the arms of the friendly City in a time of bereavement. The caring aspects of your friendliness became apparent in a way no other City can boast- mainly because of unique service by First Avenue Funeral Home. As a visitor here, I would not have known how to start arranging my Mother’s Funeral, until the minister of my daughter’s church suggested the Funeral Home, which turned out to be a one-stop-service. All I had to do was write out one cheque. In the most sensitive and compassionate way, this organization arrange every detail; death certificate, newspaper notices, undertakers, commissioner of oaths, flowers, cremation arrangements, Minister, organist, fees, final tea at the end and delivery of ashes. Everything was done in a beautiful historical house in Walmer. Port Elizabeth has always had a special place in my heart, because I am a Settler’s descendent. Now I am even prouder to claim my roots are here.

On behalf of the family, I would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to all at First Avenue Funeral Home concerning the funeral of our father. From the outset when Dad’s body was fetched at his home, right through to finally receiving the ashes, everything ran like clockwork and in a dignified manner.

A special thanks to you, Sue, for your attention to detail, following up on our requests and ensuring that everything happened as planned. We, as the family, were free of any worries related to the many steps, official and other, that need to be completed on the death of a loved one. The emails that went back and forth were always speedily attended to.

Thank you also for making the special arrangements concerning the cremation. This gave all family members, who had travelled from afar to PE, the opportunity to share in a small ceremony the day after the funeral to inter the ashes at the St. John’s Garden of Rememberance. It was a special moment.

Once again a big thank you to all concerned.
