Funeral Notices

Jean Annette Munro (née Daniell), 79, passed away peacefully on 30 October 2025 after a brief battle with cancer. She rests now in God’s loving embrace.

Born in Durban to Richard and Sophia (Dot) Daniell, Jean lived in Port Elizabeth for most of her life. She was an artist and graphic designer who spent her career working for companies in Port Elizabeth and freelancing for various theatre, animal welfare, and outdoor enthusiast groups.

Jean relished the outdoors and was an avid birder and hiker. Whether traversing South African hiking trails with her friends from the Voetsac Hiking Club or exploring trails in the United States, she would invariably spot the shiest of birds and marvel at the tiniest of insects.

Jean’s greatest passion was animal welfare. She was a founding member of the Animal Welfare Society of Port Elizabeth and actively involved in Cat Care, Animal Anti-Cruelty League, and Save-a-Pet over the years. A true animal lover, she opened her home, rescued, homed, and loved many across the years and could tame the most feral with patience and love.

Most of all, Jean will be remembered as a loving mother, aunt, and friend who did her best to make life better for others. Her wisdom and sense of humor will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter Nanette and son-in-law Steven, niece Shelley, nephew Darren (Sam), and was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Peter Frost.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at The Hill Presbyterian Church, 1 Alfred Terrace, Central (car guards will be present).

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations, in honor of Jean’s lifelong commitment and extraordinary dedication, to a local animal welfare organization of your choice.
